Bloom Energy Claims a New Fuel Cell Technology

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — A Silicon Valley company is claiming a breakthrough in a decades-old quest to develop fuel cells that can supply affordable and relatively clean electricity. Google, Bank of America, Wal-Mart and other large corporations have been testing the devices, which will be formally introduced on Wednesday.

The start-up, Bloom Energy, has raised about $400 million from investors and spent nearly a decade developing a new variety of solid oxide fuel cell, considered the most efficient but most technologically challenging fuel-cell technology. Read the rest of this entry »

According to a concept that surfaced in the US Patent & Trademark Office’s online database, Sony may be looking to exploit the growing market for gaming accessories by developing a Universal Game Console Controller. Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir place second in compulsory dance

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir began their quest Friday to capture Canada’s first Olympic ice dance gold, finishing second in the compulsory dance at the Vancouver Games.

Virtue, from London, Ont., and Moir, from Ilderton, Ont., scored 42.74 points for their Tango Romantica, the original dance drawn for the Olympic competition. Read the rest of this entry »

Tesla Says Three Employees Killed in Silicon Valley Plane Crash

Feb. 18 (Bloomberg) — Three employees of Tesla Motors Inc., a maker of battery-powered autos, died in a plane crash in California’s Silicon Valley that knocked out electricity to companies including Hewlett-Packard Co. and Facebook Inc.

The twin-engine Cessna 310 crashed about 8 a.m. yesterday in East Palo Alto, shortly after taking off in fog from Palo Alto Airport. Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said the victims’ names were being withheld while relatives were notified. No injuries were reported on the ground. Read the rest of this entry »

White’s gold-medal secret? Kayaking

WEST VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Less than 24 hours before Shaun White was scheduled to compete in the Olympic halfpipe finals, while his teammates and competitors were finalizing their runs and polishing their tricks at Tuesday evening’s practice session, White went kayaking.

“This was unlike any season I’ve had,” White said Wednesday night, shortly after becoming the first snowboarder to repeat as a gold medalist in the halfpipe. “I fell a lot, I lost sleep.
